National Commission of Rural Black Quilombola Communities (CONAQ): In 1996, during the Evaluation Meeting of the First National Meeting of Rural Black Quilombola Communities, held in Bom Jesus da Lapa – Bahia, the Provisional Commission gives place to the National Coordination of Articulation of Rural Black Quilombola Communities – Conaq, whose central character is become a social movement. CONAQ's objectives are: to fight for the guarantee of collective use of the territory, for the implementation of sustainable development projects, for the implementation of public policies taking into account the organization of quilombo communities; for quality education that is consistent with the way of life in the quilombos; the protagonism and autonomy of quilombola women; for the permanence of the young person in the quilombo and above all for the common use of the Territory, natural resources and in harmony with the environment.
